Yes, it’s my last class, last class, tonight.

I presented my class project tonight, which was a series of ten photos with a common theme or narrative. We had a little over a month to complete this project, as some crazy rescheduling from the February snow storm pushed our last make-up class to tonight. I had a very hard time thinking of a theme that I wanted to shoot. I had much better luck just shooting pictures and then picking the series when I was reviewing and editing my shots.

We had glorious weather over Easter, and I got some really nice pics of Tommy post egg hunt with a red punching balloon. My set up was basic outdoor ISO setting – 200 – with the cloudy day white balance. I set my F-stop low so I could set the shutter speed as high as possible as I knew I’d have a fast moving subject. Then I set the shutter release to sequential and just followed Tommy with the camera. The 10 photos below I put together for my series tell a narrative with a definite beginning, middle and end to this story. I love the series not just because of the subject matter, but because I think the shots are framed nicely and capture real emotion.

I’m glad I had the chance to take this class. I really learned a lot about my camera and I’m excited to keep experimenting on my own. I’m sure the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts will be offering the same or a similar class later this year. Make a note in your calendar to keep an eye out for the Fall catalog.

These were originally presented in PowerPoint, but the story stands up with just the images. Apologies to my husband. He’s not a big fan of me taking or publishing photos of him. It’s for art, Babe.
