I seriously need more weekends like this.
I am completely pooped but it’s a good pooped. I couldn’t have had a better weekend had I planned it myself. Fortunately I had some other fine ladies do that for me.
Saturday two of my oldest and dearest friends took me out for brunch – a little “sprinkle” for me and Ferpy. We went to E2, the new little cafe offering from the Enrico biscotti folks. It’s a little hole in the wall on Bryant Avenue in Highland Park. They have a sunny patio and a cozy dining room with minimal decor and a chalk written menu that changes regularly. We started our brunch with a bag of donuts. Yes, a brown paper bag of fresh cut and fried donut holes rolled in sugar, served warm. Divine with the strong hot coffee our server was not shy to refill. My one girlfriend and I both got the poached eggs, which came with roasted tomatoes, a field green salad tossed with vinaigrette and gorgonzola, and a slice of toasted buttered foccacia. My other girlfriend ordered the brioche and Camembert which was served with – I think – honey and apples. Service was prompt and helpful and our dining pace was laid-back, which was fantastic since we had some catching up to do. We finished our meal with some warm chocolate bread pudding that was smothered in fudge and served with strawberries. So. Good.
E2 is only open for brunch right now. The crowd was pretty light this past Saturday – we were there right around noon – but I think as word gets out how great the food is, it’s going to get crowded in a hurry.
Saturday evening we caught up with some more old friends for a barbecue. Always amazes me how little kids that don’t know each other at all can just play together like they’ve been friends for ages and ages. Seems like there’s a lesson somewhere there, eh grownups?
If the weekend had ended there, I’d have been a happy camper. But wait, there’s more! This afternoon I got completely pampered at Divinity Salon in Aspinwall – a Burgh Mom hair day outing organized by Cooper Munroe of The Motherhood fame. You can peruse the “DivinityMoms” hashtag on Twitter to read about all the moms’ adventures and see some great before and after pics. Still happy with my cut and color seven hours post salon and with my glasses.

Wish I could have hung out longer with the ladies but I had a date with my mom and dad who kindly offered to feed my belly with cheeseburgers and raspberry cake. After dinner I played catch up with my mom over coffee while Tommy watched a boatload of classic Mickey Mouse cartoons with his Pappap.
So to recap, I spent the entire weekend with friends (old and new) and family, being pampered with delicious food and showered with gifts, and I came out of it all looking like a beauty queen. The only casualties of the weekend were my $12 sunglasses, which I left at my stylist’s station, and my awesome Alterna swag bag that I left at my mom’s house. (I have a good feeling I’ll be seeing both of those things soon.) EVERYONE NEEDS MORE WEEKENDS LIKE THIS.
Speaking of great weekends, next weekend is the March for Babies. If you haven’t had a chance to sponsor me yet, please do it today!
