This weekend…ow.
We did entirely too much stuff this weekend and I am suffering. I even took Friday off to help balance out the stuff to time equation, but to no avail.
The big story is our trip to Cleveland Saturday to see Smashing Pumpkins. They played at the State Theater, which is an absolutely beautiful venue, akin to Heinz Hall. I think it was the same theater we saw The Kids in the Hall Live! several years back. Huh. Looks like they played there this year, too.
Anyway, I had heard the Pumpkins were going to play a Gish show, but they played little from that album. The encore was a medley of “We Only Come Out at Night” and “Everything Is Beautiful” (damn, gotta love the MIDI) — an odd choice made odder with full ensemble kazoo accompaniment. Encore 1
Encore 2
Apparently they’ve been doing this encore in other cities for this tour. For the show in Hammond, IN, they did the medley with “Summertime” by Mungo Jerry. You know the words. C’mon, sing along.
We spent the rest of our time in Cleveland reconnecting with good friends. I highly recommend the Bier Markt right across the Lorain Bridge in Ohio City for their awesome beer collection and late night food menu. Rick and I shared incredibly fresh mussels steamed in beer; he had the margherita pizza, I had the pub burger (awesome frites.) If you need more convincing, it is about 50 feet away from Great Lakes Brewing Company. I also recommend the Days Comfort Inn on Euclid – reasonable AND they have free wifi throughout the building. It would be perfect if the hallways didn’t smell like Subway bread baking.
Awesome. Treehouse of Horror. Gotta run.
Bestimus Mucho and Good Night.
